Text Box: Restored by its original designer with some minor alterations, a course whose principal attraction is the maturity of its setting (often remarkably rustic for a Costa del Sol housing estate course), ocean views and slick, true putting surfaces (long may the investment be sustained).  Gancedo is one of Spain’s most adventurous designers, but here too much is squeezed into too little – some of the valleys through which the course has been routed are alarmingly narrow (notably short p:4 8, and twisting p:5 11 – both very pretty, with excellent greensites). Four creditable p:3s, especially the demanding 2nd, across a valley (gold, but for the electricity cable). Buggy advisable in hot weather.

p:3 14 is one of El Chaparral's best holes, with a well-bunkered tiered green. This shot was taken in January: refreshing to find a course with green (i.e. non-dormant-Bermuda) grass at that time of year.

Red - p:5 17: if space prescribes a shorter course, let it be so: the way length has artificially been forced onto this hole well illustrates the point.
