From its stunning watery start Russell Talley’s artistic and strategic design more than matches the setting’s peaceful, rustic beauty: naturally undulating fairways, superbly crafted greensites with run-offs and slopes allowing the course to be set up to match the business of the day, well-positioned yet aesthetically satisfying bunkering, delightful routing and an easy walk. The first 7 beg for ***, but overall there are too many short p4s, and the back 9 routing is a little tight. Savour this exquisite test of golf and don’t leave your short game/putting skills at home.
